Music.....Why?

Music is an artform as old as time. Music can be found everywhere and with anything and without it in any form, we would be one boring species. We would have no way to truly express what we were feeling beyond words and our movies would lack any kind of tension or climactic feelings. Music is at our very foundation, the very core of our world and as a human species from the first time a caveman smashed a rock into another rock he had essentially played the first beat. From the first bird chirping at the morning sun essentially invented the first melody. Music is all around us at all times.

Why should we care to learn music or learn to play an instrument? I could quote all the scientific numbers and statistics, but what good would that do for an artistic mind? Musicians in all forms have always lived outside the boundaries of normal society and expanded the creative mind. Learning and instrument takes that interest or love of music to another level. Instead of arranging a hundred little black dots on a staff and hoping someone else could play it for you, you can play that arrangement yourself and really understand how everything comes together. Even if your not into creating your own compositions, just the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that comes from playing an instrument doesn't compare to anything else in the world for most musicians.

Possesing and demonstrating these skills is something that is disappearing more and more. With the rise of technology and computer programs, instrumental music is at risk of being lost. Even in the mainstream you see artists who rely more and more on backing tracks and auto tune to make themselves sound the best and out of touch with actual talent. It is true that you cannot teach talent, but there is nothing wrong with finding out if you posses that talent in the first place. Learning music and learning an instrument is truely the way to express yourself and show what is truly in your soul.
